The Taipei City Animal Protection Office, in collaboration with the Taipei Pet Industry Association, hosted the 2024 “Outstanding Pet Business Awards Ceremony” on November 20, recognizing exceptional pet service providers in the city. This year, 43 businesses were awarded top-tier ratings, while 69 others earned Grade A, marking a significant achievement with 80% of participants receiving excellent ratings. These high ratings offer valuable guidance for consumers seeking reliable pet-related services, including pet purchases and hotel accommodations.
The evaluation process was overseen by a diverse seven-member committee, which included representatives from animal protection organizations, industry experts, scholars, and public figures. Between September and October, the committee visited 140 businesses across Taipei—recording the highest participation rate to date—to assess various factors such as pet care facilities, animal welfare practices, compliance with animal protection laws, and consumer rights protections. The committee also considered service quality, cleanliness, and management standards.
This year’s results reflect significant improvements within the industry. A total of 43 businesses (30.7%) received top-tier ratings, and 69 businesses earned Grade A, bringing the total number of highly-rated establishments to 112. However, six businesses were rated as Grade C due to underperformance and have been given a deadline to implement improvements, with follow-up evaluations to ensure compliance with animal welfare and consumer protection standards.
The Taipei City Animal Protection Office highlighted the steady progress made by pet businesses in enhancing care practices and consumer services. These positive evaluation outcomes underscore the industry’s commitment to better serving Taipei’s growing pet-owner community.
